George asks…

What affordable apartments offer three month leases in Des Moines Iowa?

I am in college and have an internship in Des moines and am looking for an apartment for the summer.

Administrator answers:

Web sites might be a good place to find an apartment or house to rent, if you want to go through the entire list to find one in your state and then city.

The best place to look for places to rent is to go to the yellow pages of your telephone book, look under property managers.

These individuals list properties for rent in certain areas, so make sure you select the areas in which you wish to rent.

Call several of the property managers listed there, tell them you want a list of properties that they have for rent. Some will fax, email or mail the list of local places to rent along with the address, number of bedrooms and bath rooms, amenities available, such as washer and dryers or gyms, the monthly rental of the unit. Most will include a rental application. These list will include the monthly rental required, if a lease or month to month agreement will be signed. They will also indicate if they will accept Section 8 vouchers. They will also indicate it they have disabled access, allow pets and if so the type allowed.

They might indicate a web site that you might visit to get their list of places to rent. It does not cost to get a rental list from a reputable property manager.

Some will require you to stop by their office and pick up the list. A lot of them post their list outside so the list are available 24/7 365.

Make sure you don’t fall for the scams and purchase a list as 70%-80% of these list are composed of free list they have compiled. They are not the property managers of any property in most instances.

You might also google Property managers in whatever city or community you want to live in and see what comes up. Again do not pay for this information as it is free from reliable property managers.

You might consider obtaining a crime report from the city in which you would want to reside.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

Sharon asks…

How can we get out of our lease?

My girlfriend and I are having a hard time paying our rent. We pay it on time each month but we did not think and jumped into an apartment that we can barely afford when we are trying to save money.
We are now trying to think of a way we can get out of our lease so we can find a more affordable apartment.

What are our options?

Thank you.

Administrator answers:

The first thing you need to do is to speak with the management of your apartment, explaining your situation as you have done here. Regardless of how ingenious an excuse you may devise, there are NO valid legal excuses to terminate your lease early unless the landlord(s) violate the terms of your agreement or fail to provide habitable accommodations under your state’s statutes.

Offer to find a qualified replacement tenant on your own, while continuing to pay rents as agreed until a replacement is found. The more cooperative you are with management, the better the chances that they will not penalize you heavily for early lease termination.

What’s an affordable state/neighborhood to live in?

I’m in NYC right now and prices are ridiciously high. I want to find a decent 1-2 bedroom apartment to rent anywhere as long as the price is below $900 per month. Any cheap places you can think of? (w/ decent quality :) .

Administrator answers:

Wow! NY must be expensive. How do people afford that? I lived in a 1500 square foot apartment, 2 bath 2 bedrooms for 600 bucks in washington state. I have lived in washington and oregon and think the prices are very nice.

Steven asks…

what is the cheapest area in dubai to rent an appartment?

What area or district in dubai has the cheap or at least affordable place to rent an apartment, just one bed room will do, which place in dubai?

Administrator answers:

I would say Diera Dubai has some cheaper one bed prices compared to the rest of the city. You might also want to check the Karama area, which will be slightly expensive but best suited due to its close vicinity to Sheikh Zayed Road.
You will also find some cheap places to live in Sharajah but that would also include a minimum 2 hours journey during rush hours to and from Dubai.
Anything beyond Karama, along Sheikh Zayed Road is expensive to live and maintain.

Hope it helps!!

Laura asks…

where can you rent apartments by month in denver colorado?

I am looking to rent an apartment from June1st-August in the Denver area. Does anyone know of any affordable apartments that rent by month? Thanks!

Administrator answers:

If you’re just doing month to month temporarily, you might try what I did. I stayed at a cheap motel either on East or West Colfax.
Back when I did it the kitchenettes were $350 a month. Free linen changes and maid service. Towels soap, all utilities, color cable TV, AC, light bulbs, toilet paper, off street parking and complimentary coffee. I had my own phone too.

A REALLY good deal. I doubt that you could get it for that now. Might be worth considering on a temp basis.
