Your Questions About Apartment Rental Agreement Example

February 19, 2013

Laura asks…

If you have a cosigner on your apartment rental and release is it still under them?

If you originally have a cosigner and then release after that first contracted time then is it still under the cosigner? For example I sign a year apartment lease with a cosigner and after that year I decide to release. So I then sign a new lease agreement; is it still under the cosigner? Even though I am the only one who sign the second lease agreement for the new year?

Administrator answers:

No, if only you signed the lease renewal, the cosigner is no longer obliged. You’ve proven your credit worthiness as a tenant, and they decided to offer you a lease without anyone else to cosign. You are now solely responsible for your lease. Congratulations!
