Mandy asks…

Does anyone know of an apartment that will accept a Husky in San Antonio Tx?

My wife is training in San Antonio for the military and stays on base but because she isnt training for more than 6 months I cant stay on base. I cant find an apartment place that will take me because my dog is a husky. She is harmless and loves everyone. She wouldnt hurt a fly, she has lived with 4 cats her whole life and never harmed them. I have her on my command, she will walk right next to me.

Administrator answers:

Here is a summary website with links to pet and dog friendly rental places in San Antonio, TX. What I have found is that you have to make quite a few calls, because many of these rentals place an arbitrary 40 or 50 lbs. Limit on the size of the dog, and your husky would probably not fit under that guideline. If you really have such an outgoing dog as you describe, you might want to take her along for the interview and convince the owner/agent that you are a good risk.

Linda asks…

I AM RENTING THIS APARTMENT IN SAN ANTONIO TX AND WHEN ISTARTED RENTING THE MANAGER GAVE ME A MOVE IN SPECIAL?

IF I PAID 5 MONTHS OF RENT AT FRONT SHE WAS GOING TO GIVE ME 1 MONTH FOR FREE , SO I DID AND I CONSIDERED MY RENT PAID AND TODAY I GOT A NOTICE THAT IF I DONT PAY THEY ‘LL ASK ME TO LEAVE AND I WENT TO THE OFFICE TO ASKED THEM WHAT HAPPEN . THE LADY AT THE OFFICE SAID SHE REMEMBER THE DEAL BUT NOW THEY HAVE A NEW MANAGER AND THE OLD MANAGER DDIDN’T WROTE NOTHING DOWN SAYING THAT SO THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR THE MONTH OF RENT. I KNOW I HAD A PAPER BUT I CAN’T FIND IT THE ONLY ONE I FOUND SO FAR IS A RECIP THAT SHOWS HOW MUCH I PAID 5 MONTHS AT FRONT . MY QUESTION IS CAN THEY EVICT ME IN THIS 30 DAYS I ALSO HAVE MY WIFE SHE IS MY WITNESS THANK YOU

Administrator answers:

So, you have a 6 month lease, pre-paid with 1 month free rent? Is that correct? The previous manager did not note this in your lease agreement and you have nothing in writing to prove your agreement?

You say you had a paper that proved your agreement, but you cannot find it? And now are you at the end of 5 months of your lease period?

Bummer! I suggest looking high and low for that piece of paper.

Has anyone tried to contact the previous manager? That sounds like the best course. There should be some way to contact her. I’m not sure your wife will be your “best” witness.

Have you spoken with a tenant’s council in S.A.? They might be able to help. The question I would ask is “Why would I pay 5 month’s IN ADVANCE if there was NO benefit to me?” – I don’t know how much good it will do, but you gotta try!

Good luck.

Susan asks…

What’s the average price for a 1bdrm apartment in Dallas/Houston/San Antonio, TX?

Currently living in CA, considering moving to either Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio, TX with my BF depending on price. Any prices or advice as to what life is like would be great–We’re in our mid 20′s.

Administrator answers:

Just to give you an idea….

We have lived in a two bedroom apartment in arlington(outside of dallas) and are in houston currently. Both were 2/2, second or third floor and around $620 a month. We dont live in the best neighborhood around or the worst, just a nice place the two of us feel safe in, looks nice, and nice neighbors. Plus we have been near all the stuff we needed, too without being in the middle of the city.

As for life in any of those cities, it will vary somewhat depending on where you choose to live (ie. Suburbs, closer in, downtown, etc) both of our apartments were in very quiet neighborhoods and with easy access to businesses, the highways, and the downtown areas. There was never an issue of not having something to do with the entertainment, shopping, shows, parks, etc.

If possible, you might want to visit the areas you are interested in (if you havent already) and get a feel for it all. Check the type of weather in those towns (they can vary somewhat in some important areas). A major factor would be the number of job opportunities for your field or expertise. Maybe find out what areas people recommend avoiding. In houston you really cant avoid the traffic, so you justhave to go with a place you like and is hopefully near your jobs. In dallas, there are some really great neighborhoods, but the price is huge. Dallas is more of a town that people move away from the inner part of the city and to the smaller cities around it – the same could be said for houston. Im not sure about san antonio, i have only visited. But everyone i know who has lived there loved it.
