Your Questions About Apt For Rent In Los Angeles

September 12, 2012

Richard asks…

How can I get justice? or How can I cause complete social and financial ruin to horrible former tenants?

They abandoned our house with the doors unlocked and the keys and garage opener inside. And in the time it took for them to notify us by email (which was 3 hours before rent was due next, btw), someone had already gotten in, taken the keys, accessed our garage and mailbox! then presented himself as the owner so he could swindle people out of a “deposit” on the apt. I hold the tenants completely responsible for the break-ins and thefts that took place between their unlawful departure and when we were finally notified and got there to re-key all the locks. I’m so angry… I will be suing them blind. but this took place in Los Angeles and I have reason to believe they’re hiding out at mommy’s in Westport, Connecticut.
Also, is it illegal for me to post their full names on this or any other website with regard to this issue?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Administrator answers:

I think you should be directing questions of legality to the attorney handling your suit. As a lay person, if you’re involved in pending litigation, it’s best not to engage in any activities you suspect are illegal.

I understand why you’re angry, but making these people suffer isn’t going to change what’s happened to you. What it will do is feed the negative feelings you already have.

I’d like to cause complete financial ruin to tenants that broke their lease and skipped town.?

Administrator answers:

Don’t waste your time and money pursuing them. Yes, you will probably win a judgment in California, but since they obviously don’t have any assets in CA, you will never collect a cent. It’s just a moral victory that will cost you a bunch of legal fees for no return.

If you sue them in CT, you may or may not be able to enforce a CA lease, but you face the same problem- if they had any money they wouldn’t need to rent, wouldn’t need to stay with Mommy, and wouldn’t need to break the lease in the first place.

This is one of the hazards of being a landlord. Next time, get references and check them. And get a bigger security deposit. Never mind a broken lease, you are fortunate that they don’t owe you a lot of back rent.

Chris asks…

Why do alot of women date badboys on her early years and when she gets old she wants the nice guy at the end?

I’m just saying its dumb! There was a girl who i liked 3 years ago who had a choice between me and some other guy (the guys she ended up marrying). I took her out to dinner and told her if she made up her mind who she wanted to be with. I choose the other guy, the next year they got married and had two kids! He was working as a bus driver who got layed off his job. She ended up working at a coffee house because she couldnt finish up her schooling with both of them not working! He was the babysitter and didnt bother looking for another Job. One day she came home from work and find him in bed with another woman red-handed. Him and the other woman ended up moving to Miami leaving her all along with the two kids! So yesterday she comes to my house knocking, i haven’t even seen her since she told me she didn’t want to be with me. I welcome her inside and she goes on this crying crap saying how sorry she did that to me and NOW wants to have a relationship with me (Basically HELP ME WITH THESE TWO KIDS THATS NOT EVEN MINE). She is about to lose her apt because she cant pay the rent and wants to the kids and her in with me?? She must be on drugs, i told her hell no and if she needs to help to go to her family back east! We live in Los Angeles, but why do women always want the niceguys when things dont go their way with the badboys? Its not fair to us!

Administrator answers:

It comes down to self esteem for the girls/woman.
In regards to the “nice guys”.
At the time, the girls dont think they are good enough for the nice guy, so they settle for the bad guy.

You ask any of them, and they will tell you that they thought they were not good enough for you.
Its the truth.

And they are right.

Nice guys always meet someone else later on in life, who ends up being better than anyone he has ever met in the past.
