Well i hope you filed charges against your son and he is now serving time in jail — but you will have a hard time finding a place in LA with out good credit — good luck!!!

Daniel asks…

Rent increase justification?

I live in a rent controlled building in Los Angeles. Can landlord raise rent without having made any improvements inside my apt ? She has done a couple of things with the outside shrubbery as building is for sale. She raised rent $19.00 a couple years back and now she’s raised it $20.00 more commencing Sept.,2011. Can she do this with having done nothing inside.? Bear in mind I have not asked for anything to BE done . But ,can she still raise it ?
Also, I called a plumber a few months back and she refuses to pay for it ( tub hair removal and new stopper mechanism @ about $145.00 ) claiming I didn’t have her permission to call him. Her father was the landord for some 13 years until he passed away. He paid for all the plumbing which was done by same plumber I’d called this last time. This repair job is the only one I’ve asked for since she’s been landlord some 3-ish years now ,having thus collected some 36 rents from me. Yet she want’s another rent increase..!!

Administrator answers:
