Administrator answers:

I live in St. Louis, Missouri and we paid $70.00 a month for a good size unit and our stuff was there for almost three years while we renovated our home. Never damaged anything but we did bomb the unit before we moved the furniture back to our home because of spiders and who knows what the next unit might have.

Donald asks…

what the best and cheapest vacuum cleaner?

I’m looking for a cheap vacuum for my 1 bedroom apartment. The living room and bedroom are the only spots that have carpet so I don’t need anything big, but I want something that is still going to get the job done well.

What’s the cheapest way to move from state to state?

Whats the cheapest way to move 700 miles across the U.S.
I have a large size sedan, and my friend has a medium size SUV.

There’s two full size beds, and a two seat couch, plus other things that can fit in boxes, or broken apart (like computer tables, etc) Its a 1 bedroom apartment worth of things.

Whats the cheapest way to move 700 miles?

Rental truck (uhaul)? Pay a moving company (what’s a good one)? Any suggestions?

Administrator answers:

I would say price out Budget, Penske, and U-haul for truck prices. For what you have their smallest truck should work for your needs. Fuel mileage would be around 10 miles per gallon.

How much money should one spend furnishing a one bedroom apartment?

I just finished with undergraduate school in May and will now be living in an 650 sq. ft 1 bedroom apartment for graduate school. I am glad I will no longer be living in a dorm!

Although I could get free, old, and ugly furniture from family, I decided to buy stuff that I liked and would enjoy in the long term. I don’t think I spent to extravagantly, but just want to make sure.

Administrator answers:

Hey I’m going through something similar right now! Furnishing my first place! Well First I’d see what you have that you can use. Like maybe someone has a couch you can put a slip cover on for the time being until you want to splurge on a new one. Kitchen supplies you can find on sale right now since its back to school. There are lots of discount furniture places and always try craigslist. There are great deals out there if you just look! If you like to get crafty I’m sure you can fix up some beat up furniture. Honestly, furnishing your apartment should be quite inexpensive if you shop around. I’d check out they always have blogs and videos on where to shop and what to buy to get the best bang for your buck, I listen to their radio show and I always get great ideas for doing things on the cheap. I hope that helps!

Where is the lowest cost of living in California?

Im graduating from college soon and I want to find an area with a low cost of living. I’ve lived in cal all my life and I know it isn’t cheap. Where is a studio to 1 bedroom apartment reasonable $700 – $800 a month. Beggars can’t be choosers but I enjoy the rainy weather. Any suggestions?

Administrator answers:

The less desirable the area, the lower the cost of living. Desirability typically means – SAFETY, job opportunities, things to do, close to the beach.

Average price in Chico is $700-800 a month. Top employers in Chico are the hospital, CSU Chico, City of Chico, and Chico School district. Walmart is #5 with only 400 employees….
Not a lot of unique opportunities.

Redding is another great place, but again no employment opportunities.
