William asks…

Where can I find a cheap 1 bedroom apartment in Albany, NY?

Me and my boyfriend been going out for a little while and decided one day that we want to move in together since he wants to move to Albany and I am looking into attending graduate school up there. However,we don’t have much money and I’m hoping to find one by may of 2010 (when I graduate from undergraduate school). I want to have an apartment that is no more than maybe 500 and has utilities included and a laundry facility and within public transportation to and from my school. Am I looking into this too soon? If not, is this price unreasonable for all of the features I want included? Someone please help me out since no one else is at the time being. I would greatly appreciate it.

Administrator answers:

Unless you are looking for a share situation…I’m afraid that $500.00 a month would even cover your utilities for a month.

Yes…you are looking into this too soon. Rental prices could double in 2 years or decline (not likely).

Helen asks…

any suggestions to utilize and dress up a small one bedroom apartment?

my bf and i have lived here 4 years, and i would love to spruce up my apartment for cheap..my taste is kinda bohemiain and retro..

Administrator answers:

Paint is the best way to change the feel of a place. A good fairly cheap idea is to go and get some canvases at a craft store and some paint and spend the weekend playing around with the stuff and you would be surprised at what you end up with. Plus if you get naked and paint eachother and then rub yourselves on the canvas or even have sex on the canvas then your art work will not only look great but it will have special memories.

How much are apartments in New York City?

My friend and I are looking for an Apartment to get for when we go to College. Our Colleges are in Manhattan, though I hear that all the apartments are crazy expansive, and we don’t have much money. (though we will be getting part-time jobs as waitresses) We want a small apartment, 2 bedrooms, one bathroom and a mediocre neighborhood. What do you think is the cheapest we can get? Also, does Chinatown have cheaper Apartments? Because we can do that as well.

Thank you so much for the help!

Administrator answers:

It might depend on where in Manhattan and which area.

You might get lucky and get a really cheap apartment but don’t hold your breath.

Apartment living in New York City is extremely expensive, even with a studio. And that does NOT include utilities. I’m afraid you’ll need a full time job just to make ends meet, a waitress, part time or full, would not cut it.

You might have to end up living in the dorms. Or you could ask your school about housing off campus.

Robert asks…

How much is a cheap one bedroom apartment cost?

Administrator answers:

Depends on your state/cite/town and that location in your city or town. Here in Chicago it ranges from 300 in the ghetto to 8,000 literally in some parts of N side In my area its about 700, but just 3 miles down it gets to another neighborhood and it;s well over 1,000. Average is somewhere about 800 bucks a month.

Moving to City, Looking for Cheap Apartments?

I am finishing University and my fiance and I are looking into moving into an apartment of our own, either in Boston, New York, or DC for grad school and work, and I am trying to figure out what our cost of living will look like. I know that it is expensive to get an apartment anywhere in those cities, but I am wondering what the cheapest possible apartment options would be. I honestly don’t care much about what it looks like or the neighborhood, as long as I would feel relatively safe there (I feel safe in most neighborhoods-basically as long as it isn’t the worst area of the city I am fine). We only want a one bedroom or a studio apartment.
I am having a hard time finding anything on rental websites. What would you expect would be the cheapest possible (while relatively safe) apartment option in those cities?
Especially if you know anything about Boston, as that would probably be our top choice, followed by DC and then New York.

Administrator answers:

Web sites might be a good place to find an apartment or house to rent, if you want to go through the entire list to find one in your state and then city.

The best place to look for places to rent is to go to the yellow pages of your telephone book, look under property managers.

These individuals list properties for rent in certain areas, so make sure you select the areas in which you wish to rent.

Call several of the property managers listed there, tell them you want a list of properties that they have for rent. Some will fax, email or mail the list of local places to rent along with the address, number of bedrooms and bath rooms, amenities available, such as washer and dryers or gyms, the monthly rental of the unit. Most will include a rental application. These list will include the monthly rental required, if a lease or month to month agreement will be signed. They will also indicate if they will accept Section 8 vouchers. They will also indicate it they have disabled access, allow pets and if so the type allowed.

They might indicate a web site that you might visit to get their list of places to rent. It does not cost to get a rental list from a reputable property manager.

Some will require you to stop by their office and pick up the list. A lot of them post their list outside so the list are available 24/7 365.

Make sure you don’t fall for the scams and purchase a list as 70%-80% of these list are composed of free list they have compiled. They are not the property managers of any property in most instances.

You might also google Property managers in whatever city or community you want to live in and see what comes up. Again do not pay for this information as it is free from reliable property managers.

You might consider obtaining a crime report from the city in which you would want to reside.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

Anyone looking for a good deal on a cheap apartment in Denver CO? I need to get back east ASAP.?

I’m in a really sad situation, and I need to find someone to take over my lease. I just moved here from New York 2 months ago, and on the 3rd of this month (March) I got news from back home my father was killed in a car accident. I need to get home to my family but I still have another 10 months on this lease. And despite my situation, to terminate early would cost me over $4000 in fees alone which I can’t afford under the circumstances.

If you’re looking for a well kept, cheap one bedroom this is really a great find! The apartment would NORMALLY go for $650 a month but because of when I signed you’ll be getting it for only $500. AND I’m forced to pay your security deposit of over $800 dollars so at the end of the lease you might be getting money back you never had to pay in the first place. But clearly I’d rather lose my $800 security deposit then pay $4000 in fees AND lose my deposit anyway.

I’m in a really bad situation, I can count on one had the amount of people I know in this town and I need to move back east ASAP. PLEASE Help me out! This isn’t charity you’d be making out with a great deal. Feel free to contact me with any questions. My personal e-mail is Christopher_Hernandez0619@yahoo.com the apartment is in Glendale (Sage Brook)

I’d even be willing to throw in some furniture to sweeten the deal if you like. (Single Bed-Coffee Table-End Table-Entertainment stand-Large office Desk @ office Chair) What ever it takes, I need to get back to what’s left of my family. Please contact me if you think you might be interested.

Administrator answers:
