Mandy asks…

House for rent section 8?

I’m looking for a house (duplex, condo, or town home) to rent in my city. What can I do besides representing myself properly to encourage home owners to rent to me. Also where can I find free listings? Many I have seen required a fee. (Looking in San Gabriel Valley/ Los Angeles County)

Administrator answers:

I have a few section 8 properties and the city where I live, that approved my houses for section give out a list with the names of all the section 8 properties in the area. I don’t know anything about a fee, but my rent is 550 a month with a 600 deposit. The section 8 people pay a portion to all of the rent for the people approved for section 8

Daniel asks…

What to do about my sister?

I just got off the phone with my mom. next month i am traveling from TN to WI to pick up my middle school aged siblings. i am keeping them for the summer because she is moving and this will make her move easier. my brother made a comment about my sisters weight and my mom yelled at him. i asked my mom how much she weighed. she tells me 170! my 12 year old 5″2 sister weighs 170 pounds! and my mom has her wearing size 9 pants!!!! i am in the process of trying to lose weight my self. i am almost 21 and 5″3.5 187 pounds BUT i got this way because of birth control. i got married 2 years ago. i started birth control when we got engaged( i was not sexually active till marriage but didn’t want honeymoon babies) for the first time and i had no idea about the weight affects! no i will admit i was about 10 lbs over weight at that time i have always struggled some with my weight but with in a year and a half i went from 150 to 222 and i said enough is enough! i know the women in our family have had a hard time with weight and losing it is real hard. i have used diet pills and very low calories most days to lose the 36 i have but i didn’t want any of that unsafe stuff for her. i was wondering would a diabetic diet be wrong? my husbands mom/grandmother owns a duplex we rent the half that they didn’t use. his aunt was diagnosed with diabetes in november and she lost 10 pounds in 2 months i was wondering she she has lost about 3 pounds a month since. i know my sister can not continue like this but 12 is much to young for a real diet. my original plan was just real meals fruit for snacks and 1 serving size desert after dinner. but then i thought IF IT WERE SAFE to maybe try her on the diabetic diet. if all else it will show her how she will have to eat if she gets it? is this a bad plan?
my mom doesnt cook very good meals i think that is part of the problem my sister loves to do outdoor activites and i we plan to go to the park and go swimming and all sorts of things this summer as well.

Administrator answers:

I would just cook her healthy meals with healthy sized portions and make sure she exercises enough. More of a healthy eating plan. I wouldn’t put her on a diabetic diet because when she goes back to her mum’s the diet may not continue and her weight will just creep back up again slowly.
Teach her how to eat sensibly and maybe show her what may happen if she stays at a larger size.
