What would be your first choice if you were looking for a psychiatrist in Detroit and neighboring suburbs?

Have you tried them yourself? Why this place and not any other?

George asks…

Can I drive from San Francisco to St. Louis in the winter?

I would love to take a nice road trip this month to see my family in Missouri and in Illinois, but I have a rear-wheel drive car. Can I safely make the drive now, or should i wait until weather and road conditions are better?

Has anyone made this drive under current conditions with rear-wheel drive?

Administrator answers:

Yes, I have. Take I-5 south to Los Angeles, then take I-10 East to Indio. Exit near Indio and take Highway 86 South to El Centro, the I-8 East to Tucson. In Tucson, stop at a Wal-Mart and buy the cheapest US Highway Atlas they have for sale, get back into your car and go to Los Cruces New Mexico. Then North East through the Texas Panhandle and whatever else is in between that area and St. Louis. When I did it I had snow and ice all the way from Las Cruces to Springfield MO and on to Michigan. Take an extra blanket.

William asks…

What do you know about areas of St. Louis, MO?

I am traveling to St. Louis and will be staying for an extended period of time for buisness. What are the good areas of the city and what parts should I avoid?

Administrator answers:

The Central West End (just East of Forest Park) is very nice, lots of good restaurants! You didn’t mention where you are staying or your interests but food is always a choice for everyone! Chuck Berry has a bar in ‘the loop’ (Blueberry Hill), speaking of the ‘Hill’ that is the Italian section (south side) and has many good restaurants. Check out the St Louis Art Museum (SLAM) which houses a Wolfgang’s Restaurant (and a very nice art collection) located in Forest Park. The Missouri Botanical Garden (South Side) is a very interesting and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. As with all cities you can go from Good to Bad really quickly, but avoid East St Louis (across the river), the near North side and North of the Loop (this section goes from Great to worse than Bad within a block so be careful). See as much of St Louis as you can, it is a beautiful city! Contact me if you need specifics. Kevin O

Lisa asks…

Can sakura trees be grown in the United States mid west?

I live in south east Missouri, about 2 hours south of St. Louis. So I was wondering if Japanese sakura trees would be able to grow here? And if so what special care would they need?

Administrator answers:

“Sakura” is Japanese for ‘cherry blossom’….

Here are some Google images of sakura growing in your nation’s capital city, Washington, DC;

Joseph asks…

What should I see in Oklahoma City Friday night and Saturday morning?

My boyfriend has to go to OKC for work on Friday, we are staying the night and then heading home Saturday afternoon. I think I would like to see some of Bricktown and I know for sure I want to see the Memorial. What else should we try to see in the short time? And what’s a great LOCAL place to eat in OKC? No chain restaurant suggestions please, want to eat somewhere we can’t get at home. Thanks!

Administrator answers:

Depends on where you are in Oklahoma. 5-10 hours from Tulsa is going to be a whole lot different than 5-10 hours from Lawton. Also, what types of activities are you into?

In general, check into any of the state parks within Oklahoma. Lake Texhoma and Roman Nose are great for camping and fishing. If you want to go east, look into Branson, MO, or Hot Springs, AR. If you’re looking to go south, Dallas is nice. If you want to go east, Colorado is nice (a little further than 10 hours depending where you’re from). If you’d like to go north, Kansas City and St. Louis are great. You can even go someplace like Wichita just to get away.

Like I said, I can get more specific knowing where you are and what kind of activities you like.

Recommended universities/colleges for Law enforcement courses?

I live in Canada and is planning to move to New York after High school and doing a Law Enforcement course. Are they any other recommendations for universities or colleges in the Canada/United States area?

Administrator answers:

If you want to major in “law enforcement,” then you would find those degrees at the community college level. If you plan to major in criminal justice, there are many other possibilities.

Here are some:

1. University of Maryland – (College Park): College Park, MD
2. SUNY – (Albany): Albany, NY
3. University of Cincinnati: Cincinnati, OH
4. Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey – (Newark): Newark, NJ
4. University of California – (Irvine): Irvine, CA
4. University of Missouri – (St. Louis): St. Louis, MO
7. Michigan State University: East Lansing, MI
7. Pennsylvania State University – (University Park): PA
9. University of Nebraska – (Omaha): Omaha, NE
9. University of Pennsylvania: Philadelphia, PA
11. CUNY, John Jay College: New York, NY

Ruth asks…

Where can I buy duck foie gras in the St. Louis, MO area preferably on the Illinois side of the river?

Administrator answers:

I would be surprised if you didn’t find it at the St Louis Farmer’s Market on 7th St in Soulard. Their prices, quality and freshness all will probably be the best you’ll find in the metro area. It’s not on the East side sorry but I think you’ll find the trip well worth it. Plus you can get all kinds of other produce and flowers much fresher and at better prices then at the grocery store. Personally I recommend Frandeka’s inside the main hall but if they don’t have it then there’s a poultry stand on the left side I believe on the 7th street side. You will have to go early though because a lot of venders take off around noon. Of course Saturday morning is the big event so expect crowds but also expect everyone to be open at that time with their best deals.

Sharon asks…

Where is the best place to live for someone with respiratory problems?

My husband has COPD, or ashmatic/bronchial issues…we live in San Antonio, and he has flare ups about every three to four months. Would a coastal city be better?

Administrator answers:

“There’s no such thing as an ‘asthma-free’ city,” says Mike Tringale, Director of Communications at Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. This is from a February 8, 2006, press release announcing the 2006 U.S. Asthma Capitals.
Topping the list are Scranton, PA, Richmond, VA, and Philadelphia, PA. Only one southern city, 4th ranked Atlanta, GA, made the top ten this year. You can check out the entire list of 100 Worst Cities for Asthma in 2006 from the AAFA website.
This is the third year AAFA has ranked cities for asthma. During the first two years, southern cities took the top three spots with the exception of third-ranked St. Louis, MO in 2005. St. Louis has consistently scored in the top ten all three years. In 2004, KY and TN topped the list, and last year (2005) Little Rock, AR (directly east of my western AR location) and St. Louis, MO (directly to my north) took the #2 and #3 spots. This year brought some surprises, as the North Central and North Eastern seaboard areas seem to dominate. See the 2004, 2005, and 2006 lists to see how your area fares.
