Your Questions About Studio Apt For Rent

Ken asks…

Can I get my deposit back? part 2?

I went to check out a studio, and after that I agreed to take it. So I gave the landlord $500 for deposit. She told me to give the rest of the money and plus the first month rent as soon as I can (One month rent is $1075). But I didn’t sign the lease. 2 days later, I changed my mind. I called her and apologized to het for the inconvenient. But she told me she can’t return the $500 back to me, because I signed the application form and on the form it says the deposit is nun-refundable. I am wondering that since I haven’t signed the lease, can I get the deposit back? I am so worried.

P.S.: I want to add that the application form says If I rent the apt, I won’t be able to get back my deposit. But the thing is I didn’t rent the place. Would it make it different?

If you feel in the right, then it sounds like your only recourse is to sue for in small claims, and let a judge decided

Help need my security deposit back-cant give 30 days notice?

I am living in a month to month apt in Long Island (NY). It is an illegal studio apt and I gave my landlord a security and first motnsh rent. Security was 775. I lived there for 6 mos and was just laid off last week. I got another job opportunity in Mass. and need to leave by August 1st. I have a receipt from my landlord for the security but when I asked her she said no because I didnt give her 30 days notice. But I heard that is just a courtesy and she has togive me my money back. Also, since there is no lease – should I threaten to report them with having an illegal apartment. I dont want to get ugly but I really need this security for my new apartment. PleAse help!

Administrator answers:

You have a lease. It is renewed every 30 days until you or your landlord give a 30-day notice to end the lease.
Ano
If your initial rental contract stipulates that you need to give a 30-day notice in order to get your security deposited refunded to you, your landlord can keep your deposit.

Reporting her would not negate your lease contract. Besides if she were to refund your money, she would have 30 days after you have moved out (by law) to refund your deposit to you.

Sandy asks…

Im 21 and I want to move out on my own !?

So basically I am a 21 year old college student who is graduating in august 2012 with my associates degree then Im going to a 4 year for my masters to become a second grade english teacher , I currently work at a retail store receiving 11 dollars an hour . At my job I get paid every two weeks and my check comes out to 500 dollars .. However I want to move out and probably find a studio apartment with the rent of hopefully 900$ a month .

Everyone keeps telling me that Ill never be able to handle it and that I wont be able to do it ! But positively speaking I believe I can ,

I just wanted some suggestions and maybe some advice , Do any of you guys think its possible for me ?

btw I live in new york and i want an apt in the bronx

Administrator answers:

Do a trial run before you even think about moving out. You will need first and last months rent anywhere you go. Deposits for electricity, gas and water if it isn’t included in the rent payment. You will need money for upkeep of your car, gas and insurance plus money for the note if you have one. Groceries will probably run about $100.00 a week. If you use public transportation then you won’t have car expenses, but you will have transit fees. Do you have a cell phone? Add another $50.00 a month. Will you have all of your tuition, and books covered? Do you plan to stay in the apartment and never go buy any clothing or have any fun? What if you get sick and can’t work for two weeks cause you took a fall and broke a leg, got the flu or get laid off?
Guess what, you can not afford to move out.

Administrator answers:

You can’t afford 900 a month. That leave no money for food, water, power, etc.

You need to find something for about 300 a month.

Finding 1-bed room/Studio apartment in Astoria ? I am looking at $1500-1800 range?

I tried searching rent.com and apartment.com, but could find only one apartment complex with rent range starting at 2200 for a studion in LIC astoria region. Can someone please tell me what are the nice apt complexes in Astoria within my range. I am 25 single and new to New York, and would like to live in a apartment community. Any suggestions ? Is keeping a car unrealistic in Astoria ? I have to commute to Manhattan for a while before my office moves to LIC. How bad is commute to downtown ? Thanks in advance :) !!

Administrator answers:

YOu can not do this online. You have to go to the apartments. See what you get for the money. See if the neighbors are happy. If they are you will be , too. You have to do a sample commute by yourself. You can not take anyone else’s word about cars and commuting./

Will the Tennet in the Apt.of used to be two bedrooms that was converted to a Large Studio Apt.be involved with these Violations?Note: Nothing was said in Violation.Only the THREE, the 2BR and Carport Apt.
What should the Tennet do in this case? And should Tennet continue to pay rent?
Thank you.

Administrator answers:

Well the 1st thing is to learn is how to use the check spelling button and an English textbook. I don’t mean to be mean but you need to learn how to express yourself better.
2nd is to find a better place to move to.
3rd check out what is available for emergency housing/ homeless shelters.
4th If the code enforcement officer doesn’t immediately order you to move keep paying rent and make all preparations to jump to a better place.

Mary asks…

What jobs take one or two years of collage?

(If you wish to say rude remarks on my question, DON’T! Plus, leave this question) Anyways to the people who actually want to answer to my question.

I’m wondering what job’s qualify one to two years of collage for at least good amount of payment or more. I’m planning on getting a studio apt. with my husband and I want to be able to split the rent with him. I am planning on going back but to just settle down and all that I wish to just have some collage on my sholders and be able to get a good job with good pay so I can pay.

Anybody know?

Please help.

Thank you :)
Enough with Mcdonnals. Mcdonnals only qualifys people who haven’t even been passed high school but if they do that’s sad and I know they are jobs that do qualify one to two years but I’m making sure that they are right for me and what not.
I never heard of that job you are talking about. I heard in dental they are looking for people and not that many years and what not. You guys must be lazy and what not or take my question as a joke. Google gave me more answer then the two who had already answered.
What? @ sunshine

Administrator answers:

Go to a community college and major in nursing. That’s about all you can do with a 2 year degree. Everything else you study in college you would have to get a 4 year degree and/or graduate.
