Daniel asks…

What is the most popular USA site where I can get info for rooms available to rent? Batavia IL?

I am thinking about moving from London to Batavia as my office is located there. What is it like down there? would it be possible to live with youngsters [20-28] years old or live in a family house?

Will it be possible to go to chicago to party on fridays/saturdays , how long will it take to commute?

Administrator answers:

Batavia is on the Metra line. It would be best to go through a local realtor since you are unfamiliar with the area. It’s a very pretty area, with a suburban feeling and rural at the same time.

David asks…

Naperville, IL?

My husband has a choice to move to Naperville, IL or Edison, NJ for his job. We are currently in Florida and would like to get out of florida since we both don’t like it. We have a newborn little girl and two dogs. Is there a better area to rent in Naperville? We can afford around $2000 a month. Would you suggest a house or is there a great apartment complex in town? Maybe a great apartment complex right outside of naperville? My husband will be working in Chicago but we have heard such great things about Naperville.

Thanks!

Administrator answers:

I would choose Chicago over NJ any day. But, don’t limit yourself to Naperville.
While Naperville is nice, there are a lot more communities in the Chicago area, and you may something you like even more. Do a little research before settling in.

Maria asks…

Can a manager of an apartment complex ban someone for no reason?

About 2 months ago I was told by the manager of my apartment complex that my boyfriend is no longer allowed at the complex. She stated that she will have me evicted if she finds out that he is there. I asked her why and she said that he is not on the lease. Now I have lived in my apartment for 4 years and have been with my boyfriend for 1 1/2 years. This manager just started working here in Jan. I have NEVER had any problems until she started here. I always pay my rent on time. Please help me with this because I have 2 children and cannot afford to be evicted, but I need to know if she can get away with this. Oh and another thing is I asked the local police if they had my boyfriend on their list of banned people for the complex and they looked up the info and told me no he was not. I am in Naperville, IL

Administrator answers:

If you cannot afford to be evicted, then I suggest that you find other accommodations for your boyfriend. If he stays at your place overnight more than 14 times in a calendar year, he is no longer considered a casual guest, but a resident. The management has the right to require that all adults living in the premises be on the lease.

Either get your boyfriend on the lease (if the landlord is willing), or move him OUT of your place into his own somewhere else.

Administrator answers:

If he has spent the night more then 14 times in the last 12 months the landlord is correct, he needs to be added to the lease. She can evict you for moving him in, and legally you have done that if you meet the 14 night criteria.

Just make her happy and add him to the lease, it will not bring doom and destruction down on you, but eviction will.

Ken asks…

Multiple pet apartments in Naperville, IL?

My friend and I are hoping to move into an apartment together in January or February of 2011. The problem we have at the moment is that she has two dogs, I have two cats, and we’re very attached to our animals. Most of the apartments we have searched for in the Naperville area (and she is set on Naperville or surrounding areas) have a 2 pet restriction. Does anyone know of any apartments/townhomes that we could rent for under $1200 a month that would allow two small dogs and two cats? Yes, I have scoured around all the apartment search engines.
As far as whether or not the pets will get along – we have that much under control. We just need an apartment that will accept them.

Administrator answers:

What will happen if the cats and dogs do not get along with each other? This sounds like a very high risk situation.
