Administrator answers:

It depends on the city, buy my friend who had been living in Miami says that LA and Orange County are SO expensive. She moved to So Cal about a year ago. She can’t believe how much more expensive it is in So Cal. And she’s not living fancy. I grew up in LA so I guess I’m used to the prices, but she swears that everything from groceries to rent is cheaper in Miami. But she likes CA better.

David asks…

Cheaper coastal California apartments?

I am thinking of moving to California and want to live in a nice warm area. I will be making around 30 to 36k a year. I would like to move to an area miles of a beach and was hoping it wouldn’t be too expensive per month. Are there any areas that are cheaper to rent, whether its near a beach or not? I would like it to be somewhere south of Sacramento.

Administrator answers:

Cheap + Beach in populated CA doesn’t exist. Let’s say you take home $2400/month, that means the most you will qualify for is $800/month rent. That’s a one bedroom in La Habra, Vallejo, or Fresno in a lower class apartment.

I know that 20 years ago you could get some rental homes in Mexican dominated areas a few miles from Huntington beach for around that price, but we are also talking 50-60 year old 1000sqft homes. They were biking distance, but I’m sure that those prices have gone up exponentially.

But, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t search. I know that in Torrance, on the east side of Sepulveda, you are biking distance to Manhattan Beach, but the housing is far cheaper (and comes with the East of Sepulveda stigma).

Cheapest apartments in Valencia, California?

I understand nothing will be extremely cheap, I am 18 and graduating next week. I landed a job in Santa Clarita and it looks promising, but I need to find an affordable apartment or condo. Does anyone have any ideas?

Administrator answers:

Unless you got a job with the union (or one that pays over $30,000 per year), you aren’t going to be able to afford an apartment in Valencia. Typical rent is around $1200 for a 1 BR, $1000 for a studio. You can check out westsiderentals.com, rent.com, or craigslist. Good luck.

William asks…

What are some good apartments in California for cheap?

I’m 16 and plan on moving to the big CA once i graduate. I live in Las Vegas, right now, and love everything about California. I’ve got a few years to go, and I know it’s a bit early to look; but i’m just trying to get a jumpstart. This way i know what i’m getting myself in to. I plan on moving out there somewhere in South California, near Huntington or Newport, but i’m pretty open to ANYWHERE. I’d like to be a model/actor so those are the jobs i plan on looking for. However, I do know how hard it’s gonna end up being to find an audition, so I want to just start out doing some type of bus-boy job or waiter.

I plan on moving with a roomate, or 2 in order to help out with the rent.

So to get to the point,
does anybody know where any good apartments or areas are to start out?

and what’s a good paying job to start out with?

Administrator answers:

Didn’t you already ask this?

2 years is too far out to say at this point.

I advise you to get a job before moving, no landlord will rent to you without that and a good size deposit.

“actors” are a dime a dozen, come with some other marketable skill. Speaking fleunt spanish helps in So Cal.

Carol asks…

What are the cheapest apartments in Davis California?

Administrator answers:

Lawson road apartments there are 10 units. No kitchens, but they have a fridge and a microwave. Sometimes the manager cooks dinner for all the tenants which is nice cuz she has a state of the art kitchen in her unit.
