George asks…

What Does The Houses Mean And How Do You Know U Have A Certain Planet In A House?

September 7, 1989
St. Louis, Mo

Here’s My Chart

Rising Scorpio
Sun Virgo
Moon Sagittarius
Mercury Libra
Venus Libra
Mars Virgo
Jupiter Cancer
Saturn Capricorn
Uranus Capricorn
Neptune Capricorn
Pluto Scorpio
N. Node Aquarius
Thanks Alot Its Still Very New But Once I Understand It I Will Get Everything U Said I Got Some Of It But Im Still Confused Abt The Degrees And Cusps What Are Cusps And What Houses Are The Strongest And Weakest And What Does Each House Stand For? And When These Signs Are In These Houses What Does It Determine And When Does These Other Signs Come Into Play.

Administrator answers:

That’s not your chart. That’s a list. And an incomplete list.

However .. Houses:
Houses are areas of the sky. The ring of planets and signs around the earth is broken into 6 houses … 6 above the horizon, and 6 below the horizon. These houses are not “things” they are places .. Places relative to where we are standing on earth.
For instance, the first section of sky above the eastern horizon .. That is the 12th house. And the section of sky below the eastern horizon .. That is the 1st house. The section to the east of the Sun’s position at noon (the Midheaven) is the 10th house … Etc.

Where are your houses? They are always where they are.
In astrology, what counts is WHERE the ring of the signs was when you were born.
This ring (the “ecliptic”) is always moving .. One after another, every 24 hours, each sign rises in the east, moves across the sky, and goes down to set in the west. Roughly every 2 hours a new sign is rising, followed 2 hours later by the sign after that sign.

So when we someone has 12 Cancer on the cusp of your 1st house, we are saying that the ring of signs was at the point where 12/30ths of Cancer was above the eastern horizon .. At the time and place they were born at.
For you, some part of Scorpio was rising.
This means that you have Scorpio “on your 1st house”.

For interpretation, each house represents a different area of life.
Planets are parts of your personality, particular inner needs
The sign a planet is in shows the style for that part of your personality, for that need.
The house a planet is in shows where, in what part of life, you turn to try to meet that need.
Even if you have no planets in a house, you still have a sign on the cusp (starting place) of that house, and you will handle that area of life as per the qualities of the sign on that house’s cusp.

How do you know what planets are in what house? You look at your circle chart. Your circle chart is a map of the sky at the time and place of your birth. A lot of these free internet sites don’t clearly mark out where the houses start and end. I consider this a major flaw with these free programs. Because you gave complete birth data, I will do your chart up on Win*Star on my own computer:

1st house cusp = 24:09 Scorpio (24 degrees, 9 minutes … There are 60 minutes in a degree)
Since the 2nd house cusp is 24:36 Sagittarius, everything BETWEEN 24:09 Scorpio and 24:35 Sag will be IN your 1st house.
In your 1st house = Moon. Your Moon is at 7:20 Sagittarius, so that is after 24:09 Scorpio, but before 24:36 Sag .. It is in between the place of the 1st house cusp and the 2nd house cusp … Therefore Moon falls into your 1st house.
Cusp of the 1st house is called the Ascendant, the second-strongest point in your chart

2nd house cusp = 24:36 Sagittarius
IN = Uranus, Saturn, Neptune

3rd house cusp = 29:42 Capricorn
Note that ALL of Aquarius is also contained within the 3rd house, since the cusp of the next house, the 4th house, is 5:46 Pisces. We therefore call Aquarius an “intercepted sign” which means it is difficult to express the qualities of Aquarius.
When there are intercepted signs (there will always be two), there will also be two signs that are each on two house cusps. Interceptions are caused by the angle at which you are looking at the ecliptic, depending on the time of year and the time of day and the latitude of the birth place.

4th house cusp = 5:46 Pisces
4th house cusp = The Nadir or the I.C. Or the Imum Coeli

5th house cusp = 7:23 Aries

6th house cusp = 2:58 Taurus

7th house cusp = 24:09 Taurus
7th house cusp = the Descendant

8th house cusp = 24:36 Gemini
IN = Jupiter, Chiron

9th house cusp = 29:42 Cancer
with all of Leo intercepted in the 9th house

10th house cusp = 5:46 Virgo
10th house cusp = the Midheaven, the M.C., or the Medium Coeli .. The strongest point in the chart
IN = Sun, Mars

11th house cusp = 7:23 Libra
IN = Mercury, Venus

12th house cusp = 2:58 Scorpio
IN = Pluto

Paul asks…

What are some free or cheap date ideas in the St. Louis area?

I’d really love some creative or unique ideas, but I’m not an expert on the local area so any suggestions are welcome. We live in the metro east.

Administrator answers:

It depends on what you like to do. It you’re a sports fan in the summer there is minor league baseball which is much cheaper than the Cards. In the winter you can always go ice skating at Steinberg or the county rec centers. If the weather is nice go frisbee golfing in JB park or in the summer there are lots of free concerts and movies in the parks. There are reasonable outdoor concerts at JB too. Laumier sculpture park is fun to walk through and free. You can also do the trail at Powder Valley nature center which is close to Laumeir. Forest park has the zoo, art museum, history museum, boats on the lake and close by the science center. There is also Purina Farms and Grants Farm which only charge for parking and the Brewery Tour which is free. Mo Botanical is free on Tue and Sat mornings. There are free seats to the Muny. Take a tour backstage at the Fox for a small amount. Its free to window shop in the U City Loop. Soulard Market is free and fun to wander through. Most of the local wineries offer free tastings and at a lot of them you can bring your own picnic lunch. Many of the Italian Restaurants on the Hill are reasonable and you might even want to play bocce ball at Milos after a few beers. Check out the Mexican restaurants on Cherokee and the Asian restaurants on South Grand.
Buy tickets to the Moolah theater and lounge while you watch the movie. Go to the butterfly house and ride the carosel at Faust Park.
A lot depends on the time of year and what you enjoy to do.

John asks…

I want to visit and drive from New York from Texas. Recommend me some places to see on the way?

I want to take a road trip and drive from Texas to New York. There’s so many awesome states and places to see. Can someone please recommend me some good places , historical or whatever to see on the way to NY. I’ve never been to the east coast, let alone out of Texas!!

Administrator answers:

I few places I’ve been too in the general area of your trip – and these arent along any particular route so you cant do them all – they are all over the place.
The Ozarks (Eureka Springs, AR is nice, also there is a Folk History place in Mountain Home, AR)
Route 66
Wilson Creek Battlefield (near Springfield, MO)
Hot Springs, AR
The Arch in St Louis
Cahokia Mounds, IL (just east of St Louis)
Shiloh Battlefield (southern TN)
Superman Museum in Metropolis IL
Space Museum, Huntsville, AL
dirve along the Ohio River in Ohio
Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, WV
Serpent Mound, OH

all places that I’ve been to and enjoyed, some odd, some big, just a few ideas to get you started.

Charles asks…

Are there any trains that go from west coast to east coast and vice versa?

If so, what train, how can I make a reservation, etc. Ive been looking all over and when I put lets say San Diego to NY it says I’m sorry, there are no trains available or what you are looking for etc. Also how much would a trip like that cost. Thanks guys.

Administrator answers:

Try the Amtrak web site. You may have to change trains some time during your trip. Maybe in St Louis, MO or Chicago, IL.

Steven asks…

What are the good and the bad things about living in St. Louis, MO?

I want to escape from California to Missouri, please convince me or destroy my dreams.

Administrator answers:

St. Louis is a fantastic town. I grew up in the suburbs surrounding it and grew so disgusted with Wal-Mart insisting on owning the universe that both me and my brother, along with most of the other young people I know, decided to move to the city, where, thanks be to God, there is no Wal-Mart.

St. Louis has changed SO MUCH in the past ten and twenty years. It used to be a cesspool heading the way of Detroit but its inhabitants and government banded together to not let that happen. We’ve been redeveloping the city ever since on a very successful scale. I get surprised every day at how well it’s going. Places where I wouldn’t have set foot fifteen years ago are thriving (and expensive!) lofts and townhomes set in walkaround neighborhoods where everyone knows everyone else. It’s very historic and traditional.

The bad news is that we do still have some very bad neighborhoods, though not nearly so bad as East St. Louis (which is an independent city and NOT part of St. Louis) or some other places. The thing is most of St. Louis is very safe now and getting safer. But the bad neighborhoods are so bad they drag the city’s reputation down with their crime rate, which although restricted only to their neighborhoods is still bad enough to make the whole city seem dangerous on paper. But it’s simply not. I live here and I’ve been all over. The dangerous areas are primarily located in North St. Louis, although that part is slowly giving way to development. There are the notorious “state streets” that you want to avoid as much as possible. Tower Grove is currently going through rehab and is divided between half-million-dollar homes and dangerous streets.

I would say St. Louisans tend to be generally nice and sociable, religious but not obsessively so. The counties have some genuine religious nutjobs, though, with megachurches and all that. The city’s food (but not the county’s, IMO) is fantastic, with all the mom-and-pop restaurants and such. The loft neighborhoods around Washington tend to be hip with sushi bars and all that, the Hill specializes in Italian and there are also German butchers/delis and it’s difficult to find a strip mall without a Chinese place in it.

Laclede’s Landing has great clubs and is a safe nightspot. Also during the day the restaurants are fun and family-friendly. The museums and parks are equal to any other city’s, and I think Forest Park is superior.
