Your Questions About Studio Apartments In Portland Oregon

Lizzie asks…

Is Portland, Oregon a good place to live?

I’m down in So-lame Salem. I’ve been to Portland a bunch of times (was even born there), but the only times I’ve actually gotten out of the car was to go into a car dealership with my parents. I’ve always wanted to get out of the small and boring Salem/Keizer area and move up to Portland because I need life around me and it just isn’t here.

I know the artist scene is said to be pretty awesome. I’m an aspiring writer and photographer (I’m 19 years old. Give me time!) and I can’t really afford college so I clean houses for a living, making around 32k a year. Is this enough to make it up there for a low-maintenance kinda gal? I’m just interested in a decent studio or one-bedroom apartment somewhere in the city.

So…advice? Suggestions?

Administrator answers:

There are no jobs here. Unless you are going to start your own business and employ peeps don’t move here. Stay where you are for 5 years and then when jobs vs. Population irons it self out then consider moving here. Now is not a good time.

William asks…

Is Portland,OR a good place to live if you are a single with high functioning autism(aspergers)? OR is Seattle?

For the past 3 years I have thought about moving to Portland,Oregon. I visited Portland in June 2008 and December 2009. I have never visited Seattle before.

Currently I’m a single 30 year old male from the Los Angeles area. I live with my parents in the LA area becuase a studio apartment goes for $1100 a month or more. In LA I own my own car. Seven years ago I earned a BA degree from a major university.

Unfortnatley people in the Los Angeles area are very snotty, shallow, closeminded, superficial and selfish. Here in the LA area I have very few friends. Im unable to meet a girlfriend here.

Employers here descriminate if you have a noticible disability.

The two times I visited Portland I noticed people being much more down to earth and real. In Portland alot of the woman don’t have plastic surgery or wear expensive makeup to what I noticed.

In Beaverton I can get a nice 2 bedroom apartment for $725 a month.

Should I give Portland a try or am I going to have trouble making friends or meeting a girlfriend? OR should I give Seattle a try?

Here in LA if you put an ad on an online dating site if you wear glasses no girl wants to date you.

Portland overall is a melting pot of many people and very accepting. I think you would find it is a great place to live. People are kind and very down to earth. We have a reputation of being “weird” but really I think we are just nice and no frills.

Yes, rent and cost of living will likely be cheaper here and finding someone to date will hopefully be easier as well.
